route & costs flores & sumbawa

Flores & Sumbawa are two islands that are less visited in Indonesia than most of the other islands. Flores is known for it's dragons and the boat tours from Lombok to the island. Especially Sumbawa isn't known by the bigger public and doesn't have a lot of tourist attractions. It is however popular amongst the better surfers. Both islands are worth visiting, especially Flores! We made a map of our route so you can easily see which stops we made.

Coming from Lombok we took the ferry to Poto Tano in Sumbawa and skipped the entire island at first, besides spending the night in Dompu. We started our trip, after another ferry and one night in Labuan Bajo in Waerebo Village. This traditional village isn't easy to find and it probably doesn't get more traditional than this. A must see! From Waerebo, we drove to Bajawa where we visited some more traditional villages.

Next stop was Kelimutu, famous for it's sunrises and colored lakes. We missed the sunrise but saw the full beauty of the lakes. From there, it was a long drive back to Labuan Bajo, where we spent an amazing day under water with the manta rays and above water with the dragons.

In Labuan Bajo, we took the ferry back to Sumbawa and drove to the little city Hu'u. This place is famous for it's surfing and is a really relaxed place to hang out. After Hu'u, we drove back to Poto Tano where we got on the ferry back to Lombok.

Diving & Komodo trip 1.440.000 Rupiah p.p.

average daily spendings

We spent 15 days on the islands Flores & Sumbawa. We did this quite quick and drove long distances almost every day but it isn't a struggle to do this trip in this time.

In the 15 days we were here, our average daily spendings come down to 283.191 Rupiah p.p. Keep in mind that traveling with someone else can be cheaper because you can share a room. Unless you don't mind sleeping in dorms, than it even can be cheaper to travel alone.

Within this budget we integrate all costs such as ATM costs. Only the above mentioned extra costs were not taken in to account in the budget. But the ferry tickets and the rental of the motorbike for 15 days are included.

How did we spent our money? We slept in guesthouses with our own bathroom, but no airconditioning. There wasn't that much street food but eating out in restaurants is really cheap here.

Hopefully our information is useful to future Flores & Sumbawa travelers. If you have any questions, don't hesitate and let us know!

Ik vertrek volgende week naar lombok en wil daar ook graag voor enkele weken een motor huren. Weten jullie de naam van het bedrijf nog waar jullie er 1 hadden gehuurd? En is dit allemaal soepel verlopen?

    Groet nick
